Russell Wilson entered the league in 2012 as a third-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks. His 10 year stint with the Seahawks has been a decade full of thrillers, leading the team to two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl win. The Seahawks have only missed the playoffs once in his time as their quarterback and that was this past 2021 season when Wilson missed three games and struggled to play to his full ability after recovering from his finger injury week five.

Wilson has came out and said that he would like to explore his options in free agency and I think he has every right to do so. If the Seahawks organization is up to parting with number 3, there will be plenty of team that will be willing to give up a lot for him since there is a shortage of available quarterbacks still in their prime.

Remember- Wilson signed a 4 year $140 million contract in spring of 2019, that also included a no-trade claus ~meaning he can shut down any trade talks~ but he can always waive it if he so chooses. Since there is no more guaranteed money left on Wilson's contract, the Seahawks would save $11 in cap space for the 2022 season by trading him. This past season might not of been his best, but WIlson would still be a blockbuster trade.

And don't forget that it's way more plausible to trade Russ since head coach Pete Carroll is signed through the 2025 season and general manager John Schneider is signed through the 2027 draft.

Landing Spot Number 1: Washington Commanders

I believe the Commanders would be the absolute best fit for Wilson. This is a team that, with undrafted free agent Taylor Heinicke, has made it to the playoffs in the past. The NFC East isn't the hardest division in football and it doesn't say too much when a team with a losing record ends up making the playoffs. But this team two years n a row kept up with the 2020 NFL Champions as well as other playoff teams.

They have all the right pieces. This is a team that has a whole entire defensive front that is only first round picks. On the other side you have a top notch receiver in Terry McLaurin and a weapon that can do it all in Curtis Samuel. I wouldn't be complaining about watching those connections every Sunday. Especially since the offensive scheme in Washington is a lot of pushing the ball down the field and Wilson loves to throw the deep ball.

Theres not many stats out there to hype up this team, but the fact the Commanders are in a division with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles speaks for itself. Washington has the draft capital and the players to be able to send to Seattle to make them more than content with the trade.

Landing Spot Number 2: Denver Broncos

It seems to me- and all of the NFL that the Broncos have had a hard time finding their new franchise quarterback since Peyton Manning left them in 2015. They have ran through six different starting quarterbacks in that time frame.

Their current starting quarterback Teddy Bridgwater hasn't played up to par as of late and Wilson would be a great addition to an already stacked team. It might be hard to sell to an older quarterback to come join and AFC division that consists of the two newest and hottest quarterbacks in the league right now in Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert. But the Denver team itself seems picturesque with Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant. As well as a young but stout defense that places fifth in the league with less than 18 points allowed per game.

Wilson would take a team that has all the pieces (but a QB) from last to contenders for first in their division in a blink of an eye.

Landing Spot Number 3: New Orleans Saints

Its always hard to go to a team that had a tenured quarterback and take their place. Drew Brees wasn't drafted by the Saints but he played there almost the entirety of his career and was able to bring home the Lombardi Trophy in the 2009 season. But since his retirement the team hasn't looked anywhere near the same. Yet the players on the team have hardly changed in the past year. Sean Peyton did announce that he is taking a step back for the league, but other than that there is no significant losses to the Saints team that has made some deep playoff runs the past couple seasons.

The defense itself almost carried a Drew Brees-less team to the playoffs in 2021. If Russell Wilson filled that opening at quarterback the Saints would easily be a contender in the NFC. The Panthers and Falcons have been struggling for the past couple years and Tom Brady, who was apart of the Buccaneers for the past two years, has now also retired. Wilson could come in and take the NFC South division by storm.

The stellar defense that only allows less than 23 points a game and a Wilson-Kamara-Thomas combination could be quite Dange-Russ for teams in the not just the NFC South but the entire NFL.

There is a Taysom Hill problem in New Orleans but a the Saints could easily wrap him up in a nice little bow and ship him along with two first rounders to Seattle to immediately fix that problem.
